XAMPP - Apache won't start and I just installed SVN

Obviously something has changed with the SVN install, as Apache was running just fine before now.

The first thing I did was check that port 80 (the port that Apache needs) was clear, and it was.

Then I opened up the Control Panel -> Component Services -> Event Viewer and took a look at the error messages from Apache.

The SVN install had changed the httpd.conf for my Apache install. Since I’m just using SVN locally and only for myself, I commented out the SVN lines and tried starting up Apache again.

Success!

  1. Just so everyone knows, “Component Services” is found under “Administrative Tools” in the Windows control panel in XP.

  2. Thanks to you both – didn’t know how to debug Apache not starting til I found your post.

  3. XAMPP Apache was not running for me either, but after seeing this post I was able to figure it out and get it running.

Full Path in XP with classic Control Panel:
Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Component Services -> Event Viewer.

    Thanks.
